Under 8's:

In the U8's we play non-contact TAG Rugby. Although in the latter part of the season we will be teaching contact tackling in our training sessions to prepare for next season as the U9's. However, we will be putting great emphasis on keeping this season both enjoyable and fun for players and spectators alike.

Under 8s Match Reports

Match Report U8s St Neots Festival 25/04/10

We had a small team of 8 boys, Tommy Bodsworth has broken his finger, so was unable to play.

The boys didn't play well in the first 2 games, defence skills lacking, hardly any tagging, running sideways rather than straight for the touch line, but they seemed to find their feet for the 3rd game.

1st game a strong Bletchley side beat us 6-2 (tries scored by Charlie Millard). Last year when we played Bletchley we beat them.

2nd game Huntingdon beat us 4-1 (try scored by Alex Bonney)

3rd game we beat Newmarket 5-2 (tries scored by Alex, Charlie, Marcus Merino, Daniel Farrow and Luke Rouse)

4th game Peterborough beat us 3-0.

We had a couple of tries disallowed as there was some confusion on which was the try line (extra lines on the pitch for football).

Both the boys and our coaches were complimented on their sportsmanship and good behaviour. The festival was very well organised and we had a great day.

Match Report U8s v Tring C 28/03/10

We well and truly beat Tring yesterday - though it was their C team.

The boys did play really well, defence skills have really improved.

This was Declan Haughian's last game for Dunstablians Under-8s, he is moving to America with his family. Declan "Greased Lightening" will be sorely missed by the team, as well as his dad Sean, who has been a great coach.

We are now down to 9 boys in the under-8s team.

Man of the Match was Robert Hickman.

Match Report U8s County Festival 21/03/10

The Dunstablians were at Stockwood Park last Sunday for the Under 8’s County Festival, where they reached the semi finals to play against Bedford U8’s but losing out 4-2.

In earlier rounds of the competition they beat Leighton Buzzard 4-1 with points from Tom Bosworth x 2, Declan Haughian, and Oliver Rawson, had a walkover against Stockwood Park but lost to a strong Ampthill side 5-1, with Luke Rouse scoring for the Dees.

It had taken nearly six hours before the final whistle of our semi final and the lads were absolutely shattered but they played extremely well giving the usual 100% effort.

Match Report U8s v Letchworth & Stevenage 14/03/10

Under-8s are down to 10 boys in our team, we had 9 available to play at Letchworth yesterday.

The boys played really well, especially as they haven't played for a while now, good passing and tagging skills.

Man of the match was Luke Rouse - well done to Luke!

Match Report U8s v Luton 03/02/10

We had a good turnout on a school and work night. The team played really well on a freezing night in the pouring rain, their first evening match under floodlights, before the 1st team game.

We beat Luton 5-3, tries scored by Oliver Rawson, Alex Bonney, Declan "Greased Lightening" Haughian, and Eniola Adebayo (2).

The team's defence skills are improving weekly, great tagging, less run outs, and kept their line much more than usual.

Training for the next four Sundays. Next match against Northampton Mens Own on Sunday 7 March.

Match Report U8s v Towcester & Old Northamptonians 24/01/10

Dunstablian U8's kicked off 2010 away at Towcester. Teams on the day were Towcester (with a strong turn out of player making 3 teams), Old Northampton and the Ds.

D's 1st 3 games were against the host Towcester in which the Ds managed to win 2 and with gritty determination came from a deficit to claim a draw in the 3rd.

After a well earned rest, Dunstablian U8s played the final game against a strong and proficient Old Northampton side. This was a close fought game but at full time Dunstablian U8's triumphed 4-3.

Scorers on the day were: Declan x6, Eniola x6, Charlie x2, Tom x1, Robert x1 and Marcus x1

No Man of the Match was awarded - This team has not played a game since Mid December so to play in the manner they all did, the whole team deserved the award.

Match Report U8s v Harpenden & Chess Valley 29/11/09

We played away at Harpenden yesterday, very cold and muddy, though we were lucky it didn't rain.

1st game we beat Harpenden 6-4, tries scored by Robert Hickman, Declan Haughian (2), Oliver Rawson, Enioli Adebayo and Tom Bodsworth

2nd game Harpenden (fresh squad) won 5-2 (tries scored by Declan and Charlie Millard)

The 4th game didn't take place as the other squad had left.

Match Report U8s v St Neots 22/11/09

2nd match we won 6-5 (tries scored by Enioli, Alex Bonney, Peter Hickman (2) (his first ever tries!), Declan (1), Robert Hickman (1)

3rd match we won 7-5 (tries scored by Alex, Tom Bodsworth, Luke Rouse, Robert (2), Declan (2)

The team's defence skills are improving each week.

Man of the Match was Luke Rouse .

Match Report U8s v Finchley/Kilburn 8/11/09

Today the Dunstablian U8's Rugby Team travelled to Finchley (N. London) to play a triangular against Finchley and Kilburn.

1st game against Finchley was a close fought match ending in a D's win (6 -5).

The 2nd game against Finchley the D's ran in 6 trys with no response to claim a good win, the commitment in defence making the difference.

The final game was against Kilburn and the D's rounded off a damp morning with a 6 - 2 victory giving the D's U8's a clean sweep.

Congratulations to the Dunstablian U8's Rugby Team.

Man of the Match went to Eniola.

Match Report U8s v Ampthill 1/11/09

We played away at Ampthill on a very windy and wet morning.

Dunstablians under-8s fielded one team (with 1 sub) against Ampthill's three teams!

The whole team played really well, probably their best match since the start of the season.

Man of the match was Tom Bodsworth with 2 hat tricks!

Report by Deborah Channon

Match Report U8s v Letchworth 18/10/09

Letchworth played two teams against Dunstablian's one team.

Peter Hickman was Dunstablian's captain in his first home game.

All the boys tried really hard. Some of the team are new and only started for match practice a couple of weeks ago. Everyone did very well.

Coach, Tom King said 'Enioli and Oliver in particular had solid games.'.
