Match Reports
Match report U7s v Towcestrians 23//01/11
Game 1 – W 11/ 9
What a match, cram packed with tries and fantastic play from both teams.
The Dee’s played a corker of a first game. The boys supported each other well when on the attack and communicated effectively, Kieron (captain) especially showed great leadership.
In past games the Dees would get the ball straight out to the wings but this led to losing the ball because of stepping out. Today, Kieron, Darryn and Kasey were strong up the middle making the room for our wing players to score those all important tries, there was not one occasion of stepping out.
On the defence the boys held their own very well. Our tagging has let us down in the past, however, that was a thing of the past. Darryn and Kasey were especially strong with the tagging today.
This was by far their best game of the season so far, our young team REALLY came together in this game and Jason, our youngest player, has come a long way in such a short space of time.
Game 2 – L 3/10
Let’s not let the score get in the way – the fact of the matter is the boys played their socks off.
It was unfortunate that off side tagging went unnoticed. The boys got a little frustrated but did not fall apart, they pushed and pushed right until the final whistle.
f the young Dees continue to improve as they have St Neots festival will be interesting.
A massive well done to the 9 boys who played today – Jakob Arnold, Jonah Bouts, Dean Campbell, Darryn De Coito, Kasey Maple, Jason Phillips, Ben Swords, Kieron Swords and Iestyn Toley – the whole management team are extremely proud of you today.
The coaches awarded 2 boys with Coaches Player of the Day today – Darryn De Coito and Kasey Maple
Match report U7s v Olney 09/01/11
First match after the festive period and a great start to 2011. The Dee’s had a turnout of 7 today but did not seem dishearten the boys. The Dees played so well today massively improved from previous weeks.
Kieron Swords and Iestyn Toley especially were strong on the tries but of course the tries would not have been possible had it not been for the whole team. The Dee’s supported each other very well throughout the day and they have learnt from previous mistakes. There is some work to be done to improve the tagging but this young team is REALLY coming together - 2 very proud coaches today.
Coaches Player of the Day was awarded to Kasey Maple
Player of the Day was awarded to Iestyn Toley
Match report U7s v Milton Keynes 12/12/10
After several weeks without playing/training due to the weather the Dee’s travelled to play Milton Keynes on a bitterly cold winter morning.
The Dees played some fantastic rugby especially when you take into account the amount of time they have been kept away from the pitch.
Coaches Player of the Day was awarded to Jakob Arnold
Player of the Day was awarded to Iestyn
Match report U7s v St Neots 31/10/10
The Dee’s turned up in good spirit, the pouring rain didn’t seem to put them off. The Dee’s were quite low on numbers but the boys played their best throughout. Short on numbers this week with only 8 boys including debuts from Dean Campbell and Thomas Warren.
The first and third game were played against a very strong St Neots A Team but the Dee’s kept digging in and showed great sportsmanship, even in defeat.
The second and fourth game saw the Dee’s play St Neots B Team, here they were better matched and played some great rugby.
Coaches Player of the Day was awarded to Ben Swords
Player of the Day was awarded to Kieron Swords
Match report U7s v Bletchley 17/10/10
The Dees only had a turnout of 5 players, Bletchley were also a few players down but bought some of their Super 6’s to join in. We played game 1 5 a-side and game 2-4 was played 5 against 6 (Bletchley subbed one of their under 7’s for 2 of their Super 6’s)
The Dees played some really good rugby, further improved from the week before. Ben and Kieron Swords especially were strong on the tries supported by Darryn De Coito, Kasey Maple and Iestyn Toley. When playing on the defensive the boys played well together and solid as a unit. The young Dees are continually improving and working better as a team.
Coaches Player of the Day was awarded to Kasey Maple for his attention to the game and improvement.
Match report U7s v Kettering Festival 10/10/10
Game 1 – The Dees v Long Buckby – W 5/0 official score given – 6/2 friendly score
(won by forfeit, LB only had 3 players)
The Dees loaned two players so a friendly match could be played - Ben Swords (who scored both for LB) and Lestyn Toley.
Scorers - Jonah Bouts 2, Kieron Swords 4
A good warm-up game to get us into the swing of things.
Game 2 – The Dees v Rushden – L 3/4
Scorers - Ben Swords 2 Kieron Swords 1
The Dees went into this game in great spirit. The Dees were up against some very quick and large players but this did not put them off. The boys got stuck in and were not fazed when the larger boys came at them, they stood their ground and grabbed at those all important tags stopping their opponents in their tracks.
Game 3 – The Dees v The ON’s – D 4/4
Scorers - Darryn De Coito 2, Ben Swords 1, Kieron Swords 1
The Dees got really into this game. This was, by far, their best game of the festival, some great strong tagging, some really good tries scored and the boys played well together as a unit.
It was unfortunate that at the very last run to score a try, which would have seen The Dees finish as runners up in their group and through to the semi’s, we stepped just over the sideline.
This was the young Dees very first festival and the first time they had played together as a team. Coach John Swords was extremely proud of them, the boys have got some work to do but they are showing great potential at this very early stage in the season.
