BATTLE OF
THE YOUNGER TITANS OF RUGBY |
Double
Bill at Bidwell Park Sunday 16th November
Club
facilities open from 10:30am
1.
Dunstablians U14's v Bishops Stortford U14's
KO 12.15pm
|
This
Sunday, 16th November, sees a very special match
in the calendar for the very accomplished Dunstablians
U14's squad. They are entertaining high flying
Bishop's Stortford, in the Bedfordshire Under
14's League, in what promises to be a great game
and certainly a battle of the 'younger titans'
of rugby.
Head Coach of the Dunstablians squad and newly
appointed Head County Coach of Bedfordshire's
Under 14's, Ian Marshall said, "This particular
fixture has been eagerly awaited by us as Bishop's
Stortford are probably the league's strongest
side at the moment and it will be a good test
for us and most definitely a true measure of our
progress as a squad this season. With a lot of
pro club scouts, including Northampton Saints,
due to watch the match, I know the lads will be
looking to put on a strong show"
|
2.
Cup Match Dunstablians U15's v Ampthill U15's
KO 1.30pm
|
| The
second local 'Derby' this weekend, this time for
the under 15 team, which should be another exciting
contest. The lads would appreciate plenty of vocal
support to encourage them to victory.
Dunstablians are expecting a good turnout for
these games both from local fans as well as visiting
supporters and therefore the clubhouse
facilities will be open from 10.30am.
The
usual Sunday barbeque will also be cooking up
the
world
famous 'Micky Burgers and Sausages'.
So
well worth the visit for lunch & to see some
future rugby stars in the making. |

| Peter
Davis joins DRUFC! 13th August 2007 |
The name Peter Davis
may seem familiar to many of you as he was, until last
week, Commercial Manager of Luton Town Football Club.
He will commence his duties on Monday 13th August and
be responsible for the maintenance and development of
all income revenue streams. The Committee identified
this post as the next step in the development of The
Club and to have a person of Peters’ qualification
and ability is no mean achievement.
Peter has worked in the commercial
side of Rugby before so we can forgive him for the massive
indiscretion of coming to The Dees, directly from a
football club.
A number of informal social-style
meetings are being arranged to ensure that Peter is
given a true Dees welcome and to give all members the
opportunity to meet with him, prior to the start of
the season. Peter will be based at Bidwell Park, working
together with Laurence and would welcome getting to
know as many people as possible, so please introduce
yourself and give him a red-hot welcome. |

| Chairmans
XV v Presidents XV pre-Christmas match |
|
Thank You.
This is just a short note to thank
everybody involved with the Chairmans v Presidents match
before Christmas.
Not only all the players that turned out but to all
the backroom staff that made the day so successful once
again.
I was going to write a full match report but as it is
now January and I have forgotten most of it.
However one or two things stick out One being watching
young Micky flying through the air to catch a pass that
would have meant a certain try only to knock on sliding
to a halt in the mud in front of a roaring crowd. He
substituted himself shortly afterwards as he could smell
burning burgers and could no longer trust Peter on his
BBQ. The second was watching a new hopeful, James Ellershaw,
go On one of his trademark walk in the parks knocking
into many players, two of which were Peter Boyd and
Gary Best. Much later in the bar Gary said he was still
seeing stars, but he had just bought a round as with
all these matches it is nice to see some old faces,
and some really old faces playing again. To name a few
that graced the pitch, John Jones, Sam Brookes, Steve
Jenner.
I do hope everybody that watched or
played enjoyed the day and we look forward to seeing
you next year. Many thanks. Dave Coker (all my own work)
PS to all those no shows please stop
making such bad excuses (shopping, washing ones hair
etc etc etc)

- Youth Development Scheme Launch |
Dunstablians Youth
Development Scheme was launched last Thursday with a
Year 8 schools tournament. There was 7 schools entered
form Dunstable, Luton and Leighton Buzzard. All the
teams enjoyed the experience and the eventual winners
were Linslade Middle School who beat Cardinal Newman
School in the final 25-0.
This development program has been
made possible by three local sponsors Kitchens 2 Go,
Panther Platform Rentals and Vessey sports. There contributions
have been matched by the Government initiative called
Sportsmatch. This will provide much needed resources
in local schools for rugby coaching and provide a club
school link so children have the opportunity to become
more active.
The Scheme
has provisional funding for three years and the aim
is for the scheme to find other means of funding so
it becomes an ongoing initiative. CLICK
